Bergen County Adolescent Counseling
It is estimated that as much as 18% of the American population suffers to some degree from anxiety disorders, which have only begun being treated by psychiatrists at the end the 19th century. This includes abnormal or pathological fears such as generalized anxiety, stress, panic, phobias, and social anxiety. Only within the past three decades, however, has it become evident that anxiety and other mood disorders (such as depression and bipolar disorder) are common among children and adolescents, and not just afflictions found in adults. At the office of Mars & Venus, we are able to treat a wide variety of conditions for children with our
Bergen County adolescent counseling services.
In addition to mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder, we also offer pediatric and adolescent counseling services for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a behavioral disorder that, while common in children and teens, can also affect adults. In fact, 60% of those afflicted by the disorder as a child or adolescent will have symptoms that continue into adulthood. As the fields of psychiatry and therapy have continued to evolve in their recognition, diagnosis, and treatment of mood and behavioral disorders, certain neurological disorders (which are often difficult to diagnose) are also receiving more recognition. One in particular, Asperger’s Syndrome, affects an estimated 400,000 families in America. Treatment for this disorder, which is part of a group of conditions called Autism Spectrum Disorders, is also available to our patients. Our approach to
Bergen County adolescent counseling is eclectic and pragmatic, integrating different treatment modalities including individual and family psychotherapy, and careful psychopharmacological intervention, treating a wide range of psychological and psychiatric conditions in children and adolescents. Our kids’ psychiatrist will begin the evaluation process with a careful assessment of developmental and biological determinants of psychiatric and psychological symptoms as well as the family system. A treatment plan is then formulated in collaboration with the family as well as the school when appropriate.
We provide specialized, compassionate and professional services with expertise in varying symptoms and diagnosis for children and adolescents. Some areas of concern might be behavioral problems, low self-esteem, hyperactivity, school problems, depression or adjustment and coping troubles.
