Panic attacks are some of the most distressing symptoms of stress and anxiety. Some people in the midst of one mistakenly believe that they are having a heart attack or experiencing some other kind of sudden and serious physical illness. Other people feel disconnected from their bodies. Then there are folks who feel no control over their environments; this especially holds true if they’re in a public place such as a supermarket or on a sidewalk crowded with fellow pedestrians. Anyone who has ever gone through a panic attack can attest to that. Though panic attacks are frightening, they don’t cause physical harm.
Most panic attacks last from five and 20 minutes. Some can go on for up to an hour. The number of attacks depends on the severity of the condition. Some people have them once or twice a month, while others have them a couple of times per week. It’s even possible to have a panic attack while you’re sleeping. Its sudden, unreasonable feelings of fear and anxiety are strong enough to wake you up.
While panic attacks are upsetting, they’re very treatable. Mars & Venus Counseling Center is devoted to the comfort of every patient.
