Asking For Help Is Hard. Going It Alone Is Harder

November 29, 2022

Admitting we have a problem that requires medical attention is second nature for many of us. It may not always be the same when applied to our mental health. Some of us may have been raised with attitudes suggesting that a mental health concern is a weakness that can be self-corrected if only we put our mind to it. In fact, a mental health issue is every bit as legitimate and requiring of professional treatment as a physical ailment. And while knowing when to ask for help may not always be easy or seem clear, the therapist at Mars & Venus Counseling Center can provide some guidelines.

Please consider seeking treatment with a mental health professional if you are:

  • Having difficulty getting through normal daily routines at home or work
  • Withdrawing from family and friends
  • Using alcohol or other substances to deal with feelings
  • Experiencing changing eating or sleeping habits
  • Having thoughts about self-harm
  • Deriving little or no pleasure from activities that were once enjoyable

Most of us have experienced bad days or periods when circumstances were difficult, but when warning signs like these persist over a longer period and show no signs of abating, a trained, experienced mental health professional acts as an objective listener who can offer valuable insight and guidance. In a comfortable, confidential environment, our patients are free to express thoughts and feelings without being judged. Through treatments including talk therapy and behavioral strategies, our patients come to understand the underlying feelings they’ve been experiencing, and move toward incorporating substantive emotional changes.

Working together with our therapist, patients build a bridge back to a satisfying and enjoyable life. But this can only be accomplished after taking that first critical step — asking for help. If you’d care to explore the ways in which working with our therapist at Mars & Venus Counseling Center can bring about meaningful, lasting changes in your life, please contact us to arrange a confidential consultation.
