What is the difference between professional life coaching and professional counseling? Which one do you need? (Pssst, Mars & Venus provides both in Teaneck, Oradell, and Ramsey, NJ!)
The more you are focused on a specific goal, the more life coaching is for you. Life coaches will provide you with accountability, motivate you, offer support, and help you build internal strengths, self-confidence, and self-empowerment. They will help you understand and overcome obstacles and decide what direction to take. They will tap into your dreams and unrealized dreams and help make those dreams reality. Coaching is a mentoring relationship.
Counseling is necessary when the unresolved issues and the past hurts of childhood interfere with fulfillment, satisfaction, and success in the present and future. These hurts can manifest as anxiety, depression, addictions, dysfunctional relationships, or feelings of emptiness. Counselors have numerous tools that will help you overcome your blocks to success and happiness.
Professional coaching is also not covered by insurance while counseling is. Life coaches and counselors also adhere to a different code of ethics. Also, life coaches can communicate to clients nationally and internationally via phone or internet, while counselors generally cannot provide therapy to clients who are outside of the state in which the counselor has his/her license.
The Mars & Venus Counseling Center is the best of both worlds. Its staff is accomplished in both professional counseling and coaching. We offer a goal-focused approach and more specialized help if deeper obstacles become apparent during our work together.
Whether it be coaching or counseling, you will feel that we will build together a relationship of trust and you will gain a sense of hope that will maximize your ability to reach your goals.
